Foot scrub

A homemade foot scrub should always be used after you have soaked your feet in a homemade foot soak. This way, the skin is moist and easy to scrub off.

An ingredient that makes all the difference is the salt used in this recipe. Epsom salt is coarse and should be used if your feet are calloused and need extra help to exfoliate them. Sea salt should be used if you are applying homemade foot scrubs regularly. Oatmeal is sometimes used also; it is not as coarse as salt and it is recommended if you have sensitive skin.

Here's a recipe for the most simple homemade foot scrub:

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup of Epsom salt (or sea salt)
  • 1/2 cup of cold water
  • 2 drops of an essential oil of your choice
  1. Step 1

Combine salt and essential oil in a bowl.

  2. Step 2

Start adding water. When adding water, do it gradually. The consistency you're looking for is that of a paste. It shouldn't be too soft or too hard and it shouldn't run between your fingers.

  3. Step 3

Rub feet and soles in circular motion.

  4. Step 4

    Rinse off with warm water.

Tips & Warnings
  • Essential oil you add doesn't make too much difference how effectively the scrub sloughs off dead skin cells. Essential oils enhance the effect of the scrub by adding relaxing effects (when you use lavender essential oil) or energizing effect (when you use peppermint essential oil).
  • Another good way to soften feet is to apply regular foot cream or any greasy cream. Apply on your feet and wrap up in foil. Leave the foil on for a couple of hours. Wipe off the excess cream.
  • If you decide to use peppermint oil, make sure you test it on the inner side of your arm before using it. Peppermint oil can irritate the skin so make sure you're safe before using this scrub.
  • Use a foot scrub AFTER a foot soak.
