Little kids often go through a sparkly clothing phase. If your child is one them, you may have bought her sparkly shoes, a-la Dorothy from "The Wizard of Oz." After a few months of wear, most sparkle shoes lose a lot of their glitter, along with most of their charm. Revitalize those fancy shoes by restoring the glitter. This simple fix takes just a few minutes, and it costs a fraction of the price of a new pair of Dorothy shoes.
Check the tag or printing inside the shoes to find cleaning instructions. If they are washable, wash and dry them. If you can't put the shoes in the washer, brush off as much soil as possible with a damp rag.
2
Stuff the shoes with old newspaper until they resemble shoes with feet inside. This will hold the shoe fabric up and in place for glittering.
3
Remove any shoelaces, buttons or decorations that will come off. Anything left on the shoe will be covered in glitter.
4
Place the shoes on a layer of old newspaper. This will protect your furniture and catch any glitter that falls off.
5
Spray the shoes with fabric adhesive. Cover the shoes with an even, thin coat of the spray glue.
6
Sprinkle glitter over each shoe. Coat the shoes evenly with the glitter.
7
Leave the shoes on the newspaper for one hour to give the adhesive ample time to dry thoroughly. Pick up the shoes after one hour and tap them on the paper to remove any loose glitter.
8
Spray the shoes with a coat of polyurethane. Allow the shoes to dry completely. This will seal the glitter onto the shoes.
