Things You'll Need:
- List of signs
- Physical examination
- Physical therapist evaluation
- Structure
-
Step 1
Is your child overly sensitive to touch, movement, sights, or sounds, or ignore them altogether?
-
Step 2
Have you ever wondered if your child has ADD or ADHD because your child is so easily distracted? Does your child seem to lack impulse control? Is your child either way too busy or seemingly lethargic?
-
Step 3
Does your child seem to have emotional problems or social difficulties?
-
Step 4
Has the word graceful never come to mind when you think about your child? Do you think your child is clumsy or careless? Perhaps you have had your child evaluated for physical therapy or vision problems because of constant tripping or running into things.
-
Step 5
Are transitions difficult for your child? Does your child seem to freak out when going from home to school, or school to the store? When your child does freak out, it is nearly impossible to calm your child down?
-
Step 6
Did your child qualify for speech therapy or early-on services for speech delays? Did your child talk or walk later than most children do? Does your child seem to struggle academically?
-
Step 7
Seek an evaluation for SPD, Sensory Processing Disorder if this sounds like your child. Therapy can help your child overcome this very real neurological processing difficulty.

on 10/13/2008 Great article & information! I think so many conditions go mis-diagnosed because people don't realize these types of conditions are out there. More people should read these types of articles to learn more! 5*
