Shape Your Eyebrows to Work for Your Face

Having the correct shape to your eyebrows can not only make you look younger but more awake and modern as well. Gone are the days of the ungroomed eyebrows, for men and women alike.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Tweezers
  • Eyebrow pencil or skinny makeup brush
  • Eyebrow brush
  • Mirror
  • Washcloth
  1. Step 1

Know it is always easiest to groom any type of hair after showering or at least steaming the area of concern. So begin by either showering or placing a very warm damp washcloth over your eyebrow area for several minutes.

  2. Step 2

Stand in an area with very good natural light after softening the hair and opening the follicles slightly by using steaming your face. Make sure you have a mirror in front of you as well as a handheld mirror nearby. Gently brush your eyebrows from the inside corner to the outside corner, making sure they are in place.

  3. Step 3

Take the pencil or brush and place it vertically along the right side of your nose. The tip of the brush should run up slightly past your eyebrows. This will show you approximately where you eyebrows should begin on the inside corners. Anything that is past the pencil or makeup brush will need to be plucked with tweezers.

  4. Step 4

Pluck the hairs that fall past the pencil or brush, then place it on the opposite side and follow the same steps again. Once finished, you will need to focus on the outside corners of the eyebrow by placing the pencil or brush at the tip of your nose and then line it up at an angle to the outside corner of your eye. Just as before, make sure the pencil or brush falls past your eyebrows.

  5. Step 5

Pluck anything that falls past the pencil or brush on the outside corner. Make sure you are only plucking the hairs that are past the pencil or brush, which would be closer to your hairline than your nose. Make sure to do this on both sides of your face.

  6. Step 6

Define your eyebrow arch. The arch of the eyebrow should lie naturally above you pupil when you are looking forward. You can use the pencil or brush once again to find this, or you can look in the handheld mirror and find it by looking straight ahead. Most people will have a definite arch already formed, so you should only need to clean up the area slightly. Do this on both sides of your eyebrows.

  7. Step 7

Take the handheld mirror and look for any stray eyebrow hairs that may be sticking out and pluck them. Just make sure not to pluck any that are lying properly in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you define your arches, remember they should look nice and natural instead of sharp or pointy.
  • If you have really thick eyebrows that need major grooming, you may want to visit a salon to have them professionally done the first time. Then you can pluck as the hairs begin to grow back.
  • Always pluck the hairs in the direction of growth.
  • Remember not to over-pluck. If you are nervous, only pluck a little at a time until you get the right amount removed.
