Things You'll Need:
- Nylon fabric
- Nylon handle
- Sewing machine
- Matching heavy-duty thread
- Pressed foam
- Prefabricated zipper
- Fabric scissors
-
Step 1
Lay down a length of fabric. Place your guitar on top. Outline your guitar with chalk, adding an extra 4" around the edge. Remove the guitar. Place another length of fabric on top of the original. With fabric scissors, cut along the outline. Repeat the same pattern so that you end up with four over-sized cutouts in the shape of your guitar.
-
Step 2
Take the pressed foam and place it under your guitar. Cut it in the shape of your guitar, adding 3" around the entire pattern. Do this twice so that you have two pieces of pressed foam to protect your guitar.
-
Step 3
Lay down the first piece of fabric and place a foam cutout on top. Cover it with another piece of the fabric. Sew the entire edge, enclosing the pressed foam. Repeat this with the other two pieces and the other piece of foam. Sew this piece as well.
-
Step 4
Lay the two sewn pieces on top of each other. With heavy thread, stitch the two halves together, stopping at the bottom of the case and extending only 6" over the headstock area. This will leave an opening in which you can insert your guitar.
-
Step 5
Take your prefabricated zipper and sew it onto the remaining opening. Make sure you double-stitch it, as ity will experience serious wear and tear and you don't want it to fail. On the side of the case, heavy-duty-stitch a nylon handle. Box-stitch it, making numerous passes. (These handles can be purchased at fabric stores, and should be made of heavy-duty webbed nylon.) Place your guitar inside its new case and check the fit. There should be a small amount of room for it to move, but it still needs to be fairly snug. Decorate it as you desire.
