How to Do a Top Braid

Styling your hair so that it looks different everyday can be a challenge. Luckily, the never-fail braid has been updated and you can change your hairstyle by adding a top braid to your hair. A top braid is a glorified French braid that sits atop your styled hair. Many celebrities wear their hair in a top braid style. The hairstyle completes a classy or elegant outfit for a woman who wants a great overall look.

Instructions

1. Make a part at the top of the crown of your head and part it down your head to the top of your ear. Clip the hair in place to keep it separated from the rest of the hair.

2. Part the hair from the same spot on the crown to the top of the other ear but on the other side. When you clip this hair in place, you should see a continuous part across the top of the crown from one ear to the other.

3. Clip the bottom part of your hair that is loose, so you can release the top two parts that have been clipped back. Once you release the top two parts, brush the hair over the side of the head towards you.

4. Divide the hair. Starting at the side of the head that is on the far side from you, divide the hair into three sections. Hold all three sections in both hands, so you can begin to do a top braid in the hair.

5. Switch fingers as you pull the hair into a top braid and braid the right strand over the middle strand followed by braiding the left strand over the middle strand. Pull the hair tight, as you continue this motion across the top of the head.

6. Tie off the braid. Once you have reached the other side of the head or have braided as far as you would like to go, brush the ends of the three strands so they are one strand and place a hair tie at the end of the braid.
