Step 1
Do your hair. If you can’t do your own hair, then go to your favorite beauty salon. A new job is always reason enough to get pampered. Your hair should always look professional. Never go to a retail job interview or any interview with brightly colored hair. An example of this would be bright red, orange, green or pink. Men, if you have Afros or Mohawks, get them cut off. If you wear these extreme hairstyles at the interview, you will not be perceived as being professional.

Step 2
Wear professional-looking jewelry. Never wear a lot of bracelets or rings. If you must wear a bracelet, wear only one. Rings should be kept to a minimum as well. One or two rings are enough. Women need to wear simple earrings if you wear them. Never wear bright earrings or ones that are long or large. Men, if you wear them, remove them until after your interview and check on whether you are allowed to wear them once hired.

Step 3
Dress conservatively. Wear a solid-color conservative suit. Dark grey, blue or black is perfect. With the suit, wear a white long-sleeved shirt. If you're male, wear a conservative dark-colored tie with your suit as well. The best advice is to have your clothes ironed and ready the day before your retail job interview.

Step 4
Wear dark-colored conservative shoes. Men, wear dark blue or black socks with your shoes. Never wear gym shoes. Ladies, wear conservative flat shoes or low heels. You should never wear heels that are too high. Men should also wear a solid-colored belt with clothes. This make you look professional and ready to work in retail.

Step 5
Wear makeup. Yes, makeup is a part of your dress for success. Women, your makeup should be light and natural. If you don’t know how to apply makeup, have a friend or family member to help you. Men, just be sure that your facial hair, if you have any, is neat and trimmed. Do not wear perfume or cologne that has a strong scent.
