How to Know You're Ready to Fire Dance

It's an intriguing thought, dancing with fire, but how do you know if you're ready? Too many people hurt themselves with an over zealous attitude toward fire. You'll improve your chances of success by reading this article.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • self awareness
  • a respect for fire
  • a strong desire to dance with fire
  1. Step 1

    Answer these 10 questions:

    1. Have you been trained by a professional in your chosen art? (poi, staff, fans, fingers, hoops, juggling)

    2. Did you make your own props or did you purchase them from a professional?

    3. Have you been trained in fire safety for your prop?

    4. Do you have another person who can act as a fire safety assistant to you?

    5. Do you have all of the necessary fire safety equipment?

    6. Have you surveyed the area where you plan to perform/practice with fire to determine it is fire safe?

    7. Do you have fire safe clothing to perform/practice in?

    8. Do you completely understand how your chosen fuel is to be stored, handled, transported and used?

    9. Do you know what to do with excess fuel?

    10. Do you feel confident in your overall skill with your prop when it's NOT on fire?

  2. Step 2

    If you answered yes to all of these questions, then move onto Step 3.

    If you answered no to any of these questions, then you might want to address those issues before lighting anything on fire. Tips & Warnings
  • If you take dancing with fire lightly, you will get burned. Make sure you are fully prepared before making the leap. I guarantee it's more fun with full confidence that you won't get hurt in the process.
