Deer season is approaching and you have to get ready, but the old deer stand you bought is broken. You do not need to spend a lot of money to buy a new stand. It is possible to make a new deer stand yourself and save money in the long run.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 10 wooden pieces, 2 x 2 inches, 12 inches long
  • 2 wooden pieces, 2 x 2 inches, 18 inches long
  • 2 wooden planks, 1 inch thick, 12 x 12 inches
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • Planer
  • Vinyl to cover seat and back
  • Padding cotton or foam
  • Paint and brush
  • 4 metal hanging hooks
  • 2 straps made from cotton or leather (could be old belts)
  • Gloves
  1. Step 1

Take four of the 12-inch long pieces of wood and form a square so two of the pieces overlap at points. Nail them together. Do the same with another four pieces of wood. Then take the two left and put on one of the four so it stands up, but only on one side. It will be crooked once it is done.

  2. Step 2

Nail one of the planks to the top of the crooked one and one to the other piece. The crooked piece is now ready for the support piece.

  3. Step 3

Take the crooked piece and stand it up on the legs with them standing away from you. Take both pieces of 18-inch wood and put them diagonally from the top of the seat without legs, front to the bottom of the legs in the back so when you technically would sit in the seat it would give you support from sagging.

  4. Step 4

Nail the vinyl to the front of the seat after folding it over so it stays stronger; do this on the seat as well as on the back piece. Then put the padding in where the vinyl will hold it in. Cover the whole thing, pushing the padding in. Nail the padding in tight with the vinyl. Do not forget to fold the vinyl at the joint. Do this to both pieces.

  5. Step 5

Attach the two hanging hooks so the seat could be suspended from a tree and put the other two on the piece which is the backrest. You are finished with the construction part.

  6. Step 6

Take the planer and make sure you have both pieces where there are no splinters.

  7. Step 7

Paint all exposed wood so the elements will not hurt it. After the wood part is fully painted, leave it out to dry. Test your new stand on a tree at home. Hang both pieces from the tree and then take the belt and hook it on to sides of the pieces and around the tree.
