Maternity models, or expecting models, are needed for maternity clothing lines. They appear in runway shows, promotions for maternity wear and in pregnancy and motherhood magazines. Now that there are an increasing amount of varying maternity clothing lines, more maternity models are needed to show off these clothes. Maternity fashion has changed a lot over the last decade, and celebrities are showing off their pregnant bellies rather than hiding them under baggy clothing. You can become a model for maternity clothes and model for pregnancy magazines, advertisements and websites. Nursing mothers are also needed for advertisements and magazines to model clothing and pose for photographs. Learn how to become a model for maternity clothes and start your career in modeling today.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Find a photographer. You will need to find a photographer who can take photos of you so you can create your own portfolio. It would be best to find a photographer who has taken some great photos of models for maternity clothes, or any type of parenting modeling.

  2. Step 2

Meeting and photographing. Bring a wide variety of maternity clothes to model. The appointment should begin with you and the photographer talking about what you need. Explain that you want to become a model for maternity clothes and that you need to begin building a portfolio in order to get an agent. The photographer should understand where to go from there.

  3. Step 3

Buy a portfolio. If the photographer you hire does not have a professional portfolio available, you can find one online. You will need this to display your photographs in and keep them safe. See the link below for a wealth of information on modeling portfolios.

  4. Step 4

Create your portfolio. To become a model for maternity clothes, you will need a portfolio to show to your potential agent. You will also need a wide variety of photographs that you can sell to clients on your own. Place all of these photos in your portfolio. Keep track of where and when they have been published. Keep copies of the published photos, as well.

  5. Step 5

Obtain an agent. There is only one agent for those who want to become a model for maternity clothes--Expecting Models (see Resources below). They will help you get your photos published in magazines and advertisements. They will also book photo shoot appointments for you. You will need to apply to become a model under their agency.

  6. Step 6

Apply at Expecting Models. To apply, you will need to mail some of your best photographs to Expecting Models, Inc., Attn: New Faces, 167 Madison Avenue, Suite 304, New York, NY 10016. More instructions are on the Expecting Model's website (see Resources below).

  7. Step 7

Sell your photos. While you are trying to get an agent, you should not just simply wait. You can still submit your photographs to magazines and apply for modeling positions with ad agencies. To do so you can search for magazines that accept direct photo submissions from maternity models.
