Instructions

Decide on a scheme, color or patterns, for your stick first and foremost. If you want one solid color such as blue, pick up a container of Krylon spray paint for plastics. The reason to choose a spray paint specifically for plastics is that it is designed to mold and stay well with your stick, and won't chip like other spray paints might. If you don't have access to spray paint, pick up some RIT dye from the grocery store or hardware store.

If you want to make a complicated design, start by cutting duct tape and putting it on your head where you want the white to be. This is complicated and time-consuming, but if you want something such as lettering, it is the best way to go about doing it.

If you are just dying the head a basic color, make sure you are somewhere where it is okay to get dye on the ground (such as outside in the grass). Take the mesh out of your stick if you want to keep your strings white (recommended) and re-string the head later.

Next, begin spray painting or dying. The dye has specific directions, including mixing with water (if the dye is a powder) and making a certain amount of coats to keep the paint job looking good. Every dye is different, so just check the back of the label.

Once you're done, let it dry off and string your white mesh back into the stick.

Tips & Warnings

  • Try playing around with a dye job on an inexpensive stick to get the hang of it before putting your expensive lacrosse head on the line.

  • Make sure not to spray paint inside.

  • If you are not old enough to purchase spray paint, have an adult supervise you.

  • Make sure never to inhale the toxic spray paint fumes.
