Garbage disposals are a wonderful thing to have. However, after many uses, they can make your kitchen smell. Use these simple tips to make the whole kitchen, not just your disposal, smell better.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • lemon or lime
  • bleach
  1. Step 1

The first thing you need to do is pur some bleach down the sink where the disposal is located. Let this sit for a while and kill any bacteria or germs that could be growing. After this has sit for 5 minutes or so, rinse with water really well while running the disposal.

  2. Step 2

The next thing you want to do is to take the fresh fruit you have bought and cut it into small pieces. For a regular lime or lemon, cut into quarters so the disposal does not have to tear through the whole piece of fruit.

  3. Step 3

Now slowly run water, and drop the pieces of fruit in the disposal, just as if you were throwing away, but did not want your trash can to smell. Before you know it, your whole kitchen will smell like citrus, and a good smelling kitchen is hard to beat!

on 8/15/2008 Excellent tips. I also use a combination of baking soda and white vinegar. It seems to work well too.
