Things You'll Need:
- 1 egg
- butter or margarine or spray for the pan
- 1 slice bread of your choice
- frying pan
- sausage, bacon or ham if desired
-
Step 1
Can you smell the aroma of the bacon?Either spray your pan with butter flavored spray or melt 1 tbsp. of butter in the pan. Do this on a medium heat. If you're having bacon or sausage with your toad in the hole, cook that first and drain most of the drippings off and the remainder can be used instead of the butter or spray.
-
Step 2
Cut a hole, either square or round in the center of the bread slice. Save the cut out for bread crumbs or spread some peanut butter or jam on it for a breakfast appetizer. Drop it carefully into the prepared pan. Then break the egg into the hole. If you don't like the yolk whole, break the yolk and smush it around to mix.
-
Step 3
As the egg is cooking, butter the top of the bread around the egg. This is on the same principle as making a toasted cheese sandwich.
-
Step 4
Once the egg is firmer in the hole, carefully turn your toad in the hole so that the other side gets nice and toasty.
-
Step 5
The finished productOnce the other side is cooked and the color of toast, carefully slide out of the pan on to your plate. Add the saved bacon, sausage or ham and serve the fruit on the same plate or in a separate dish. Voila! Breakfast is done
