Make a Toad in the Hole for Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Creating a toad in the hole is a fun meal for you kids and its great to make for a camping meal. If you like breakfast sausage, bacon or ham, this cam be cooked in the pan as your toad in the hole is cooking.Combine it with fresh fruit and coffee, tea, juice or a glass of milk and you have a complete meal that is filling and healthy.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 egg
  • butter or margarine or spray for the pan
  • 1 slice bread of your choice
  • frying pan
  • sausage, bacon or ham if desired
  1. Step 1
Can you smell the aroma of the bacon?

Can you smell the aroma of the bacon?

Either spray your pan with butter flavored spray or melt 1 tbsp. of butter in the pan. Do this on a medium heat. If you're having bacon or sausage with your toad in the hole, cook that first and drain most of the drippings off and the remainder can be used instead of the butter or spray.

  2. Step 2

Cut a hole, either square or round in the center of the bread slice. Save the cut out for bread crumbs or spread some peanut butter or jam on it for a breakfast appetizer. Drop it carefully into the prepared pan. Then break the egg into the hole. If you don't like the yolk whole, break the yolk and smush it around to mix.

  3. Step 3

As the egg is cooking, butter the top of the bread around the egg. This is on the same principle as making a toasted cheese sandwich.

  4. Step 4

Once the egg is firmer in the hole, carefully turn your toad in the hole so that the other side gets nice and toasty.

Once the other side is cooked and the color of toast, carefully slide out of the pan on to your plate. Add the saved bacon, sausage or ham and serve the fruit on the same plate or in a separate dish. Voila! Breakfast is done

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a non stick pan for ease in removing.
  • Keep the bacon, ham or sausage warm by covering the plate.
  • Cheese can be added to the toad in the hole after the first turning. Melt some Shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, Parmesan will all add extra taste to your breakfast.
  • This is easily made by older children under adult supervision.
  • Don't walk away too far from the stove as it can burn.
