How to Use a Hand Held Mixer
Lumpy batter? Tired of beating and mixing with a spoon? Hand held mixers are pretty convenient ways to whip up cakes, cookies, and other foods that need to be beaten to incorporate air, like egg whites for a souffle, or whipped cream. Assemble the ingredients you will need for whatever it is you want to mix up. Read the recipe through so you know how to make it and the steps that it calls for.

Get the hand held mixer out of the cabinet or the drawer. Put the beaters in according to the maker's instructions. They have various requirements.

Plug the mixer in.

Follow the recipe, using the hand held mixer for the amount of time that the recipe specifies.

Unplug the mixer and remove the beaters for washing. Clean the exterior of the mixer by wiping it down with a dish cloth. Put it away. Either wash the beaters in the dishwasher or in the sink with hot, soapy water. Rinse well.

Tips & Warnings
Do not plug the mixer in before you put in the beaters.
Do not make thick heavy dough, like bread dough, with your hand held mixer. The motor will burn up if the dough is too heavy. The instructions that came with your mixer should specify the densest or thickest batter you can make with your mixer.
