Step 1
Tan consistently for six to eight sessions within a span of two weeks. Develop a good tan base. If you have a hard time tanning, you may have to have sessions separated by no more than a day or two.

Stay in the bed only for as long as you should. Tanning bed rays are primarily UVA, which penetrate deeper and expedite the tanning process. But prolonged exposure can result in sunburn.

Tan consistently to maintain base tan. Two sessions a week with alternating intensity is recommended.

Watch your diet. Foods with beta-carotene like carrots, tomatoes and celery help maintain the tan. But too much can result in sunburn.

Use moisturizing soaps to keep your skin hydrated after you leave the tanning bed and throughout the days you are working on achieving a dark tan.
