How to Insert an Animated GIF into a Powerpoint Presentation

PowerPoint is part of the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software, which includes Word, Excel and Outlook and can include other options depending on the version. Inserting an animated GIF file or movie into your PowerPoint presentation can make the difference between a drab or fab finished product. An animated GIF will add a moving object to break up the gray text and static images.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch the PowerPoint program, open the presentation you would like to edit and navigate to the slide in your presentation that you wish to add the GIF file to.

    • 2

Choose the "Insert" tab and select the arrow under "Video" and choose "From File" option from the sub-menu.

    • 3

Select the animated GIF file that you want to add to the PowerPoint presentation.

    • 4

Click on the "Yes" or "No" button from the dialog box that asks if you want the GIF file to play automatically when the chosen slide is shown. If you choose no to this option, the GIF file will begin when you click on it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Download and save the GIF file in a place that is easy to find, such as "My Documents," to save yourself some time searching.
