How to Make Embossed Velvet

Embossed velvet can be very expensive. As a solution, you can create your own embossed designs by burning a pattern into the fabric with a patterning tool and a steam iron at home and create custom designs that look like you spent a fortune on them. Turn your embossed velvet into a pillow, a scarf or a throw by following the below suggestions.

Things You'll Need

• Acetate velvet
• Patterning tools such as rubber stamps, metal cookie cutters, washers or shaped armature wire
• Steam iron

Instructions

1. Arrange a piece of velvet, plush side down, on your patterning tool.

2. Press the iron on the wrong side of the fabric on the patterning tool, and hold in place for 8 seconds, making sure not to wiggle the iron.

3. Remove the iron and turn the fabric over to reveal the pattern burned into its surface. Continue embossing patterns into the velvet as desired.

4. Cover a pillow with the embossed velvet, or make a scarf or a cozy throw.
