How to Disable Flash Ads in Internet Explorer thumbnail
Flash ads can be pretty irritating.

Flash ads in Web pages can be annoying and disrupt your browsing experience. Worse, Flash pop-up ads cannot be disabled by most pop-up blockers. Fortunately, Flash ads can be disabled by simply changing the settings in Internet Options. This process also disables all Flash-based games and videos from operating in Internet Explorer. However, these changes can be very quickly and easily reversed if you would like to access these Web resources.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Internet Explorer and click "Tools" -- it's the gear wheel icon in the upper right corner of the browser -- and choose "Internet Options."

    • 2

Click the Programs tab and click the "Manage add-ons" button.

    • 3

Scroll down in the right pane until you see "Shockwave Flash Object." Select the entry, click the "Disable" button, and then click "Close."

    • 4

Click "OK" and restart your browser.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can re-enable Flash at any time by following the preceding instructions and clicking the "Enable" instead of the "Disable" button in Step 3.
