How to Brush the Teeth of a Chinese Pug
If you have a Chinese pug you know they love to eat. If your pug loves food and doggie treats, chances are he or she has developed a build up of plaque and film on their teeth. Taking the time out to brush your Chinese pug's teeth once a week or more will prevent periodontal disease in your canine; which is another term for tooth decay and tooth loss. Brushing your Chinese pug's teeth will leave your pet with healthy, clean and fresh smelling breath.
Things You'll Need
- Chinese pug
- Small bowl
- Small bowl of warm water
- Eight to ten tablespoons of baking soda or pet toothpaste
- Pet toothbrush or child's toothbrush
- Half of a cup of warm water
- Spoon
- Two wet washcloths
- Towel
- Water bottle
- Table, floor or steady surface to perform the brushing

Take a towel and cover the floor or table; this is your work area.

Take a spoon and mix it well to eliminate dry lumps.

Place your Chinese pug on the towel.

Take one of your arms and hold the Chinese pug in place and then carefully open their jaw and insert the toothbrush onto the upper left side of the mouth. Lightly brush the top teeth in a side by side motion. Work your way over to the upper right side of the mouth and repeat.

After the upper row is done, remove the toothbrush and rinse in the water bowl.

Take your toothbrush and apply a pea-sized amount of toothpaste on the the bristle surface of the toothbrush.

Take one of your arms and hold the Chinese pug in place and then carefully open their jaw and insert the toothbrush onto the lower left side of the jaw and lightly brush the teeth in a side by side motion. Work your way over to the lower right side of the mouth and repeat.

Use a damp washcloth to prevent drips and messes from drool during the brushing process.

Carefully take the water bottle and rinse the Chinese pug's mouth out, be sure to have the dog's head facing down to avoid choking.

Use a clean, damp washcloth to wipe the gums clean and to keep the area around the mouth clean and dry.

Tips & Warnings
Use a small child's toothbrush or one that has a thin row of bristles.
If desired, use pet toothpaste instead of homemade paste.
Take it slow and reward your pug with teeth friendly treats.
Hold your pug while a partner helps to brush the pug's teeth, this will keep stress levels low and allow the pug to feel more comfortable.
Make sure to brush the top, bottom, sides of the teeth both front and back.
Brush daily for optimal health.
Do not force the toothbrush into the Chinese pug's mouth, this could cause the animal to bite you or attack.
Do not use anything but a baking soda paste or veterinarian recommended toothpaste, as the chemicals may cause an allergic reaction or be harmful to the health of your Chinese pug.
