How to Run a Spybot Search and Destroy Scan
Spybot Search & Destroy is a free anti-spyware application. It will find and get rid of any and all spyware on your system. This will stop others from making unwanted changes to your computer, such as altering your homepage and adding unnecessary toolbars. Spybot Search & Destroy will also get rid of all adware, keyloggers, usage tracks and Trojans. Once you run it on your PC, you can be assured of your security. Here are details for running a Spybot Search & Destroy scan on your computer.

Open Spybot Search & Destroy. Start this anti-spyware program either by clicking on its icon on your desktop or by selecting “Start”, “All Programs”, “Spybot – Search & Destroy” and then “Spybot – Search & Destroy” again.

Update the program to acquire the newest available detections. Click on the “Search for Updates” button. A small box will open, which is the Spybot – S&D Updater. Select (if the program hasn't already) any USA-based site and click on the “Continue” button located at bottom of the box. Click on ALL detection files that show up if they are not already selected. Then click on “Download” and let all of the files download. Click on “Exit” to complete the download.

Utilize Spybot Search & Destroy to scan your system. Click the “Check for problems” button to initiate the scan. Let it run the scan throughout your system. This may take a lot of time, depending on such factors as the last time you performed a Spybot Search & Destroy scan on your computer and the size of the area being scanned. You must let it complete the scan prior to proceeding. A bar on the bottom will show you the progress of the scan and what specific checks are being run.

Remove any problems found by Spybot Search & Destroy. After you run the scan, you may see some problems listed in red (with check marks attached) and some in gray (and unchecked). You are safe to delete the ones that have been automatically selected (all the red ones). The others are your choice. If you want to select all of them, right-click on any of the listed problems and then “Select All.” Once you have chosen all of the problems you want to be removed, click on “Fix selected problems” and a small box will pop up. Select “Yes” and then “OK” to confirm problems fixed. Close the program by clicking on the “X” at the top right corner.

Repeat this process weekly, if not more often. It will prevent unwanted problems from occurring in the first place.
