Sheet music can be expensive to buy. But if you want to know how to play a specific piece of music, it’s the easiest route to take. However, if you are on a budget, there are a few things that you can do to get free sheet music.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Library Card
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Head over to your local library.

  2. Step 2

Ask your librarian if they carry sheet music. Some libraries have a music section available for patrons to use that often has sheet music available inside of it.

  3. Step 3

Search for books. If your library does not have sheet music available, another option for you is to search for books. Most of the time, you can find music books that will contain sheet music in them.

  4. Step 4

Photocopy the sheet music that you want. Most libraries will have a copy machine available to the public. This is a good way for you to get your very own copy of the sheet music.

  5. The Internet

  6. Step 1

Visit the 8notes website (see Resources). This website can be a useful tool in your search for free sheet music.

  7. Step 2

Decide what instrument you want your sheet music for and click on it. There are specific sections of sheet music for whatever instrument you might play.

  8. Step 3

Click on the top option. This page will have a series of pages that you can go to. The top one will say “Free XXX Sheet Music” where XXX is whatever instrument you decided on. This will redirect you to another page with a list of music and available formats.

  9. Step 4

Browse the list of available free sheet music and click on a specific format. Only members can download the PDF versions of the sheet music, however the GIF versions work just as well.
