Step 1
Investigate your eligibility. Australia has immigration eligibility laws that are not unlike our laws here in the U.S. Immigration is easier for, and preferences are given to, individuals with family residing in Australia, workers sponsored by Australian employers, and individuals that have special skills or talents. You can read up on more of Australia's immigration eligibility requirements at the Australian Government's Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.
-
Step 2
Fill out and submit the required immigration eligibility forms. Forms can be downloaded and printed or you can choose to complete and submit your application online at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship website.
-
Step 3
Complete a health examination. Provided that you are eligible to move on to the next step in the immigration process, you will be contacted to set up a health examination with a government-approved physician. All members of your family applying to immigrate to Australia will be required to be examined as well. You will also have to provide information on your extended family's relevant medical history.
-
Step 4
Provide required information for a thorough background check. All immigrants to Australia are required to be of good character. This mean providing, upon request, personal references in each country you have lived for 12 months or more since the age of sixteen. If you are outside Australia at the time of your immigration application, an immigration official will notify you when to provide the character reference information. If you are applying for immigration while in Australia you may simply include the information with your application.
-
Step 5
Sign an Australian Values Statement. All applicants over eighteen-years-old are required to sign an Australian Values Statement when applying for immigration. By signing the statement you agree to respect the Australian way of life and abide by Australian laws.
-
Step 6
Wait for a response to your immigration application. You will be contacted with a decision as soon as it is available. Good luck!
