Tying a ribbon bow tie is similar to tying a shoe string. Because a ribbon is generally narrow in width, tying it tight is the key to creating a tie that will stay tied. Follow these step-by-step instructions to learn how to tie a ribbon bow tie.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Narrow ribbon
  1. Step 1

Secure the base. Take both ends of the ribbon to make sure they are even, create a loop and pass one end through the other. Pull tight to form a tie.

  2. Step 2

Form a loop. Form a loop with each side of the ribbon and hold them securely with both hands.

  3. Step 3

Tie loops. Wrap one loop behind the other. Form a space that is a thumb's width under the loop and pull the second loop through it to the front.

  4. Step 4

Tighten the bow. When you have completed the bow, tighten it securely by pulling on the loops. Make sure that both loops of the bow tie are the same size and the ribbon tails are even with one another.
