Sullivan, Illinois is a city full of history with it's historical landmarks. Live entertainment is available at the Little Theater on the Square, and there's plenty for the family to do during the summer at Lake Shelybville. While Sullivan is a great place to visit for the day, it is a wonderful location to raise a family.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Find Sullivan on your driving map by checking the central area of Illinois. Sullivan can be found between the town of Arthur and Mattoon. Sullivan is almost four hours south of Chicago.

  2. Step 2

See local, future and past favorite stars on the stage of The Little Theater on the Square. The Little Theater has children's theatre during the summer that has shown shows such as High School Musical, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and Winnie the Pooh. Watch shows for adults during the summer such as "West Side Story," "Guys and Dolls," "My Fair Lady" and "The Sound of Music." The Theater has been putting on shows as early as the 1950s. Sullivan's Little Theater is located uptown in Sullivan on the square.

  3. Step 3

Relax at nearby Lake Shelbville for some fun in the sun. Bring the kids for a fun filled day of swimming, boating, fishing and lounging on the beach. Pack a picnic and spend your lazy summer days at the lake.

  4. Step 4

Eat at a variety of restaurants located in Sullivan, Illinois. You can choose from ethnic restaurants such as China King which offers Chinese food, or Los Postros II which offers Mexican food along with cultural Mexican music too. For restaurants that are family friendly, try the Red Apple or Pizza Hut. If you would like to get your coffee fix while touring the Sullivan area, stop by the coffee bean for an espresso, latte or cappucino.

  5. Step 5

Browse the square uptown while you walk with your friends and family. See historical buildings that have been renovated or changed into other businesses as well. Businesses that are located on the spot include The Little Theater, Los Postros II, The Coffee Bean, Hagen's Pharmacy and even a thrift shop where you can shop for trinkets, clothes, books and more at low discount prices.
