Things You'll Need:
- Calendar
- Study time set aside for each subject
- Syllabus for each class
-
Step 1
Sign up for a class schedule that you can live with. If you are not a morning person, then an 8:00 a.m. class is probably not a good idea. Also, signing up for three or four classes in a row with no break can be a challenge, especially if this prevents you from eating lunch.
-
Step 2
Attend all classes. Many students mistakenly believe that they can manage by simply reading over the textbook and borrowing another student’s notes to study the night before the test. This is a poor way to manage student work. To manage student work more effectively, you need to attend each class and ask relevant questions.
-
Step 3
Create a master calendar. Go through your syllabus for each class and record the due date for each assignment and test. By seeing important due dates listed all in one place, you will be more effective in managing your study time.
-
Step 4
Set up a study schedule. To manage student work, look over your class schedule and determine what is required for each class. Then, set up a particular time to study for each class throughout the week.
-
Step 5
Be realistic about time management. To manage student work, you need to set aside time to eat, sleep, drive back and forth to class and attend to other responsibilities. Be sure to build in time for these tasks as well as attend class and study.
-
Step 6
Schedule no more than one hour in a sitting for studying. Studying for more than an hour at a time is likely to cause burn out, as well as, decrease the effectiveness of the session. Instead, switch to a different subject after an hour.
-
Step 7
Study for tests as you go. Do not wait until the night before a test to cram for it. Instead, study what you just learned each day, as well as, review what you have previously learned throughout the semester. This will help you to learn the material rather than just memorize incrementally for a test.
