How to Make a Good Impression in a Teacher Interview

Landing that perfect teacher job means good and solid preparation for the interview. The recruiters usually make their decision and have a lead candidate in mind before anyone faces the interview panel. If you want to get into that lead position, then you need to make the best impression possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Follow the basics for any interview. Dress appropriately for the occasion. Get plenty of rest the night before. Show up on time and be ready to face a myriad of questions. This is essential for any interview but more so in teaching.

    • 2

Have a philosophy of education and be ready to explain it. Don't try to be daring and different. Just tell them your thoughts and feelings on teaching and how you would best educate the children in the classroom. Be ready, because they will definitely ask.

    • 3

Familiarize yourself with the latest trends or methods in teaching. Even if you have never used them, knowing them by name and having the ability to explain them will show the interview panel that you at least are up to date. It will also show that you care about education and what is happening.

    • 4

Have a sample lesson plan prepared ahead of time. Some schools will even have you teach a class. Even if this isn't the case, the interview panel will see that you are serious and well prepared.

    • 5

Show a desire to become involved in the school in other levels. If your athletic, then inquire about coaching. If you have other interests then managing an after school club might be an incentive to hire you. Schools look for teachers that can offer a multitude of skills and many of these are used outside the classroom. Any hobbies you have can be used to your advantage.
