How to Apply for HUD Housing

2. Meet with a housing authority representative to determine eligibility. Housing authorities determine eligibility based on annual income, age, disability and confirmation of citizenship status. Different housing authorities have different income guidelines, so while you may not qualify for one area, you may qualify for assistance in another.

3. Have the housing authority representative review the application. The form can be confusing, so ask questions.

4. Complete the application. Provide the names of all the people who will be living in the home. Include the age and sex of each occupant, as well as his relationship to the applicant. Provide employer history, tax information, rental history. Be completely honest on the application.

5. Turn in the application and wait for a written response. If you are found eligible for the public housing program, a housing authority representative will notify you.
