How to Live Frugally in the UK

The U.K. is one of the most expensive countries in the Western world. Despite its high wages, many residents struggle to make ends meet. However, it is still possible to practice frugal living in the U.K., where frugal living can result in loads of savings. If you are a U.K. resident and are feeling the pinch, then pay close attention to these tips that demonstrate how to live frugally in the U.K.

      Find the cheapest possible living accomodation. The best way to do tihs is to get out of London. It is substantially cheaper to live outside of London and comute in by rail or car.       Combine services. The major power suppliers such as Eon and British gas will combine your gas and electric bill for less money. You may also want to look into combining your Internet, phone and satillite. Virgin and BT all offer packages that amount to substantial savings.

      Look beyond the high street chains and stores. Many are surprised at the variety and quality of items they can find in pound stores and discount shops. Stores like Poundland and Pound Stretcher offer several quality items for a very low price. Wilkinsons and TK Max also offer good quality household goods at a fraction of the cost.

      Adopt a do it yourself attitude. Ask you local council about an allotmet (ground for gardening). You can rent these for approximately 20 pound per year. Most grow their own fruit and vegetables. While it is a lot of work in the initial stages, it will save a fortune on groceries.

      Sign up for the supermarket points schemes. Sainbury's Nectar Cards and Tesco's Club point all give you points or credits based on the amount you spend. These can be redeemed in the store at any time for shopping or cash. They take a while to accumulate but before you know it you have a week's worth of groceries courtesy of the store.
