How to Remove Rust on Silverware
If you wash your silverware in the dishwasher, chances are high that your silverware will rust. Fortunately the rust on silverware, while unsightly, will not harm you. You can easily remove rust on silverware with simple ingredients you may have already in your house.
Things You'll Need
- Lemon juice (from a lemon or the bottle variety will also work)
- Baking soda or cream of tartar
- Glass bowl
- Water
- Dry towels

Seperate out the piece of silverware that will need to be cleaned and lay them on a dry towel.

In a glass bowl create a thick paste with lemon juice and either baking soda or cream of tartar.

Take the first piece of silverware in your hand. Apply the paste and gently rub it into the rusted areas with your fingertips. Use a gentle massaging motion.

Rinse the silverware with water and inspect. If the silverware is still rusty repeat Step 3. If not continue on to Step 4.

Dry the newly rust free silverware and enjoy.

Tips & Warnings
If you have only a piece or two that needs cleaned, you can use a lemon, if you have a larger project, you will want to purchase a bottle of lemon juice.
To prevent rust from forming on your silverware, remove the pieces from your dishwasher once the dry cycle is completed and towel dry any wet spots.
Do not use jewelry cleaner on your silverware.
