Thrilling, surprising and captivating, roller coasters can create enjoyable experiences for the whole family. But you don't have to ride a real roller coaster to enjoy the thrill. Using specialized games and software, you can design a roller coaster on your computer and watch it work!

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Internet and/or computer software
  1. Step 1

Determine what you want to accomplish by designing your roller coaster. Just want to have fun? Looking to learn more about physics? Knowing the purpose ahead of time will ensure that you build the right type of roller coaster for your needs.

  2. Step 2

Determine which game or program is right for you. There are free programs online and a bevy of computer games available for purchase that provide you with the unique opportunity to design your own roller coaster (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

Consider purchasing game software. The Roller Coaster Tycoon series of games offers a number of options, each with different roller coasters to design. You can choose the type of roller coaster (wooden, stand-up steel or corkscrew, for example) and then build it to your specifications. Guests in your virtual theme park can then ride it and give you feedback. Some versions of Roller Coaster Tycoon even allow you to see what the guests see! Other programs, such as Ultimate Ride offer similar features (see Resources below).
