How to Cure Your Cat of Dandruff

Cat dandruff can manifest from a number of things, and its important to know why your cat developed dandruff if you want to determine which treatment plan you should follow. Basically, dandruff is dry skin. If your cat is used to going outdoors, the sun may be drying out your cat’s skin. A lack of moisture in the air can be another cause of dandruff. Diet, weight, and parasites should also be analyzed. Whatever the reason may be, it’s a good idea to have your cat examined by a veterinarian. Once serious health conditions such as diabetes are ruled out as the cause of dandruff, you can take steps to rid your cat of its dandruff. Here’s how to do it.

Instructions

    • 1

To eliminate the possibility of your cat getting sunburned, and getting dandruff as a result, keep Kitty indoors when the sun is strongest. If you take measures to avoid exposing yourself to the damaging rays of the sun, why shouldn’t you protect your cat from those harmful rays?

    • 2

Keep a humidifier on in your home. Moisture in the air will put moisture in dry skin. By plugging in your humidifier, you’ll get rid of your cat’s dandruff and you’ll have beautiful looking skin.

    • 3

Find out if your cat is overweight. If your kitty is fat, it may have difficulty reaching certain areas on its body when grooming itself. To help with this problem, you may want to consider putting your cat on a diet.

    • 4

Another possible cause of cat dandruff could be a lack of omega-3 fatty acids. Tuna fish or a fish oil supplement purchased from a pet store should relieve your cat of its dry skin condition.

    • 5

If your cat has parasites, consult with a vet on how to get rid of these pests.

    • 6

You can bathe kitty with a shampoo designed to get rid of dandruff in cats, but make sure you rinse all traces of the shampoo off kitty and brush its coat with a soft body brush during the rinsing process. All too often, dandruff is the result of not rinsing all of the shampoo off of kitty. The remaining soap will make your cat’s skin dry and flaky.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never bathe your cat with a human dandruff shampoo.
