Stay Safe During an Earthquake.
Stay Safe During an Earthquake.

Earthquakes are unexpected and can happen at anytime. The best way to stay safe in an Earthquake is to be prepared. Here are a few simple steps to help you through an Earthquake.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Be prepared! Put together an Earthquake kit. Your survival kit should include:
    * Flashlights
    * Batteries
    * Battery powered radio
    * Bottled water
    * Food items that won't spoil: Tuna, Granola Bars, Power Bars
    * Blankets
    * First Aid Kit

  2. Step 2

    At Home: When the Earthquake starts do not panic and run out of your house or building. This is how most people get injured. If you are near a heavy piece of furniture get under it! If you are not around anything you can take cover under stand in a doorway or in the middle of the room.

    Stay away from the windows. Windows are the first thing to break under pressure.

  3. Step 3

    At the office: Do not panic and run out of the building. Get under a piece of sturdy furniture or walk to the middle of the room. If your walking down a hallway when an Earthquake strikes stay to the middle of the isle and protect your head from any falling debris.

  4. Step 4

    In the Car: Usually when your driving you won't feel an Earthquake unless it's a big one. If you do feel it pull off to the side of the road slowly if you can. Cover your head and protect your eyes from breaking glass.

Tips & Warnings
  • Be prepared.
  • Practice drills at home, office and while driving.
  • Make Earthquake kits.
  • Do not panic.
  • Do not run out of your house or a building.

on 8/2/2008 Good advice. I especially like the idea of an Earthquake kit. I don't live where earthquakes are a problem, but certainly this is important for many.
