How to Format a Column in Excel to Currency

Microsoft Excel is a great way to keep a ledger for your financial records. Here are the steps to format your numbers into currency.

Things You'll Need:

    Open excel

    In the first column, labeled "A", type in some numbers. It doesn't matter what they are for the example. You could also copy the numbers in the picture I have provided.

    Highlight the column of numbers by clicking on the column header labeled "A".

    Right click anywhere on the highlighted area to bring up the pop up menu as shown.

    Select "Format Cells" from the pop up menu. This will bring up the format cells window.

  6. Step 6

    In the list under the heading "Category", select the option, "Currency". Make sure you choose the appropriate symbol for your currency. In the U.S. it is $ (the dollar sign). Also choose the number of decimal places. The default is two.

    Click the ok button. You should now see your column of numbers formatted to currency.
