How to Start a Skateboarding Team

Starting a skateboarding team is a way to meet people who share a love for skateboarding. Members of the team have a unique opportunity to work with each other to learn new skills and techniques. While it is easy to start a skateboarding team, it is a little more difficult to make that team grow and expand into an efficient and well-known team.

Instructions

    • 1

Talk to other skateboarders about starting a team. You need skaters who have different skill levels and different specialties. For example, one skater may be good at different grinding tricks, while another may be good at aerial stunts. It is also a good idea to have team members who are different ages on your team because some skating competitions have events separated by age categories.

    • 2

Work with the other team members to come up with a name and logo for your team. When you go to skating competitions, your team members can register using the team name. In addition, you can put the team name and/or logo on each skateboard or the team members can have shirts made with the name and logo.

    • 3

Practice as a team. This will give everyone on the team the chance to show off their skills. This is a good way for all of the team members to see each other's strengths and weaknesses. From here, you can decide as a team which members should represent the team in which events. In addition, members who are good in one area can help the other members improve their techniques in that area.

    • 4

Be on the lookout for new members. Adding new members will diversify your team. More members means more exposure and publicity for your team. If your team is good enough, you may be able to get your team sponsored by businesses, which will enable to participate in more competitions.

    • 5

Go to as many competitions as possible. This will give your team experience and the chance to win awards. The more your team wins, the more well-known your team will become. If there are only a few competitions in your area, consider trying to organize competitions yourself. You can try to get local businesses to sponsor these competitions.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep in mind that members of the team may disagree at times. It is important that everyone on the team remember that fighting will only tear the team apart. Don't let petty differences or jealousy break up the team.
