Also called VirusProtect, VirusProtectPro is a fake anti-spyware application.     1. Uninstall VirusProtectPro, the Counterfeit Anti-spyware Application

        Download the following tools (See Resources below for download links): SmitRem, a standalone scanner designed to remove Smitfraud and other Trojan spyware; SmitFraudFix, which will delete most SmitFraud infections; RogueRemove to remove most rogue spyware applications; HijackThis, which is an essential utility for finding many malware applications; CCleaner, which can be used to remove temporary files, cookies, history and registry issues.

        Launch SmitFraudFix. Select "Option 4" to check for and download any updates. Once you have installed all updates, close the programs and reboot your computer in Safe Mode. Safe Mode is usually initiated by hitting the F8 key on your keyboard while your computer is booting.

        Open the SmitRem folder and double-click the icon named "RunThis.bat" which will launch SmitRem. This utility will run the Disk Cleanup in addition to removing suspicious files. Disk Cleanup will remove temporary files that are stored on the hard drive that may contain viruses.

        Open SmitFraudFix once SmitRem is done scanning. Select Option 2 to scan and remove any problem files. Open and run RogueRemove next to remove any potential rogue applications that may have been installed along with SmitFraud.

        Run CCleaner while you are while you are still in Safe Mode. Click on "Analyze and Clean." Next, click on the "Issues" button found on the left-hand side of the screen. Also click "Scan and Fix any Registry issues CCleaner discovers." Keep running the registry scanner and the file analyzer until no problem files are found.

        Open HijackThis next to remove any other potential issues. Be very careful when using HijackThis because you may accidentally delete an important system process. If you are not sure whether a particular file is malicious or legitimate, you can use the Online HijackThis Scanner (See Resources below) to see if a particular file is a threat.

        Download and run KillBox to uninstall harder-to-remove files or processes. Click on the folder icon in the upper right-hand side. Browse to locate each of these entries and then click on the option to "Delete upon Reboot."

        Reboot your computer in normal mode. Use the Add/Remove utility on the Control Panel to remove any VirusProtectPro program.
