How to Wash Delicate Clothes in Commercial Laundromat Washers
When you're going to the laundromat, efficiency is key. The idea is to use as few quarters as possible, as little detergent as possible and as little time as possible. But when you have a few delicate items in the mix, you have to use and pay for an extra machine and use more detergent--even though delicates are usually not very bulky and you may not even have enough for a small load. That is, of course, unless you use this trick and throw them in with your regular wash. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Separate your delicates from the rest of your clothes. Further sort your delicates into light and dark clothes.
-
2
Put two or three delicate garments into a pillowcase of a similar shade or color. Use as many pillowcases as you need to accommodate your delicate items. Don't over-stuff any one pillowcase; the garments need to be able to move around inside in order to get clean. Be sure to match shades or colors between garments and pillowcases.
-
-
3
Close each pillowcase by folding over the opening twice and securing it with a safety pin.
-
4
Add the dark stuffed pillowcases to your regular dark wash and put the light stuffed pillowcases into your regular light wash. Run both loads on the regular cycle.
-
5
When you remove your clothes from the washing machine, set the pillowcases aside. Remove the safety pins and pull out your delicate garments. The pillowcases can go into the dryer with the other clothes, but the delicates should be examined on a case-by-case basis to determine the best drying method. Many delicate items will need to air dry. Read the care instructions on the tag of each garment to be sure.
