Press the button on the side of the phone that turns on the digital camera. If you're left-handed, this button will be where your middle finger rests. If you're right-handed, it will be where your thumb rests. This activates the camera and begins to display the camera's view on your BlackBerry Pearl or Blackberry Curve screen.

Look at your BlackBerry screen to see what the picture is going to look like. You can zoom by rolling the wheel forward toward the screen, and you can zoom out by rolling the wheel away from the screen and toward the keyboard. Both the BlackBerry Curve and the BlackBerry Pearl have this feature.

Press the BlackBerry menu button to the left of the rollerball to switch to a full-screen mode, view your pictures or change flash settings, adjust the white balance, the picture quality and size and experiment with black-and-white or sepia-toned color settings. Not all of these features are available on all BlackBerry phones.

Press the rollerball inward to snap the picture. Hold very still and wait for the completed image to show on the screen. If you don't like the picture, roll the ball to the right until the little garbage can icon is highlighted. Your BlackBerry will likely ask for confirmation before the image is deleted. Try taking the picture again be pressing in the rollerball. If you like the picture, it will save automatically and the camera icon will be illuminated in preparation for taking another picture.

Try sending the picture to a friend by rolling the ball down to the envelope icon and following the on screen instructions. The crop icon helps you change the image, and the file folder icon helps you change the file name of the picture.
