Instructions

    • 1

Combine dry ingredients. Combine flour, salt, choice of drink mix, and cream of tartar in a medium saucepan. Do not turn heat on.

    • 2

Add liquids. Slowly add water to the dry mixture. Turn on medium heat and stir until dissolved. Add cooking oil and stir continuously until thickened. Consistency should be like that of mashed potatoes.

    • 3

Remove from heat. Set aside to cool for at least 10-15 minutes.

    • 4

Knead. Turn onto a lightly floured surface. Knead until dry and cooled, but still pliable.

    • 5

Seal. Store in a sealed plastic bag or a tightly sealed container. Play dough will keep for four to six weeks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use this cooking experience with your child as a lesson in math, too. Explain to your child the different sizes of measuring spoons and cups.

  • Even though this recipe for home-made play dough is not toxic, explain to your child that play dough should not ever be eaten, even though it smells good.
