How to Decorate a Classroom Bulletin Board

If you enjoy creativity, then you'll love the fact that there are countless ways to decorate a classroom bulletin board. From holidays to classroom events to crafts that were made in your class, there are plenty of ideas that can have your classroom bulletin have a different theme every week. Of course, many teachers find it hard to constantly come up with new decorating ideas. Often, choosing a common theme for the whole month allows you to come up with something for the next month and gather the necessary supplies.

Instructions

    • 1

Staple a solid color for the background of the bulletin board. Every month or however often you wish you can replace this background color. This can get rid of the boring bulletin board while still allowing you to showcase what you want without damaging the classroom walls.

Consider a theme for each month that you will base some of your studies on. For example, many themes could be determined by a holiday that is celebrated during that month. If you're having problems in class with manners, consider using this as a theme for the month.

Have children color pictures or decorate paper as an activity. Let the craft be easily stapled or taped to the background paper and bulletin board.

    • 4

Write a simple phrase on the bulletin board's paper background that is a quick explanation of what is being shown. "Ms. Smith's Shining Stars" is an example that could portray a project where students painted a star. Write the children's name on the craft so that it everyone knows who created what. This is also appreciated when parents stop by to see what their children has done in class.

    • 5

Use the bulletin board as a display for points if you're rewarding your students for good behavior. Have the children's name creatively written on the board, perhaps as a paper train going the length of the bulletin board where each child has their name on an individual cart. If the student has behaved or does a good deed, add cargo to the top of their cart and watch how each child gradually accumulates cargo.

    • 6

Take pictures of the students doing an activity. Get action shots of them writing, playing, eating, smiling, laughing and frowning. Place the pictures on the bulletin word with the proper word next to it. This is good for younger children that are learning to read. The children will also feel special to see their pictures up on display.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always ask a parent's permission to take pictures of their child. Explain how the picture is to be used for a classroom activity.
