Things You'll Need:

  • Running/jogging apparel
  1. Step 1

Run along San Vincente Boulevard, starting in Brentwood and ending at the ocean. This run will give you two great views of Los Angeles: the ocean and the beautiful houses.

  2. Step 2

Run on the outside track at UCLA. You can find the track near the John Wooden Center (the student gym) and Pauley Pavillion. This track offers a safe experience if you like to run at night, and also provides the backdrop of a picturesque college campus.

  3. Step 3

Run on the strand from Santa Monica Pier to Venice Beach. The strand is the stretch of sidewalk on the sand that extends for miles. You will see other runners, joggers, bicyclists and roller skaters using the strand. The sheer amount of people present makes for a safe experience as you get to run along California's coastline.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to bring water and wear bright and/or reflective clothing when you are running.
  • If you are running in West Los Angeles and are far from home, it may be wise to carry a cell phone in case of an emergency.
  • Running in the morning will afford better weather conditions and ensure less traffic along your running path (if you are concerned about overcrowding).
  • Be aware of your surroundings. While West Los Angeles offers a safer running experience than other areas of Los Angeles, this does not mean you can be careless. Take as many precautions as you feel are necessary, including running with a friend or carrying a self-protection device in case of danger.
