How to Load an Operating System

Things You'll Need
- Computer
- CD or DVD drive
- New operating system or upgrade disk
- Driver disk that came with your computer

Refer to the manual of the new operating system CD for step by step instruction.

Familiarize yourself with your Driver Disk. If you do not have a disk for your machine, check CNET or Driver’s Guide for your particular model. You will need video and sound drivers, as well as those that are particular to your model.

Insert the operating system disk into the CD or DVD drive. The disk will auto run. A window will open on your screen to provide further instructions.

Click "YES" when asked to format the hard drive.

Follow the process through. You may have to answer a series of questions before the operating system is fully loaded.

Click "System" in the Control Panel of your new operating system. Look for the "Hardware" tab and then locate the "Device Manager" tab. Using your Driver Disk, install any device drivers that are missing.

Reboot your computer after everything is loaded. Recheck the Device Manager for errors. Once everything is working properly, load your favorite program software.
