Things You'll Need:
- Day-glo jersey or vest
- Lights
- Protective glasses
- Bright gloves
- Appropriate weather gear for your area, if you plan to cycle to work year-round
-
Step 1
Check your bike to see that it's properly maintained. Better yet, get a tune up.
-
Step 2
Fix up the bike with front and back blinking lights, and consider adding a bike light on your helmet.
-
Step 3
Drive defensively. Never make any assumptions. Always use hand signals to signal. Look behind you before turning and generally maintain a steady speed. Ride with a colleague for greater safety.
-
Step 4
Choose proper all-weather gear, even if expensive. It makes all the difference in motivating you for the days you would rather ditch the bike for the car. Get into the rhythm of cycling, and thrive on it.
