Instructions

    • 1

Talk with a variety of physical trainers about their work and how they became certified to become a trainer. You should meet with both trainers who work for companies or personal gyms and those who have started their own personal fitness businesses.

    • 2

Acquire the necessary education after graduating from high school. You must be in exceptionally good health and fit as a fiddle. Get your certification in physical training (see Resources below). Be very careful about accreditation. There are many organizations that offer a certificate in this field, either through online/seminars or traditional classes. There is a range of different prices and hours required. You can also specialize in an area of interest, so make sure your training matches your goals.

    • 3

Find a physical trainer who will let you work as an intern for lesser pay while you go through your certification process. If you want to go on your own, find someone who can help you develop a business plan. Call the local Small Business Administration or Chamber of Commerce.

    • 4

Continue your education and training after finding a position through courses and fitness conventions. Or consider going on to college for a degree in such fields as exercise education, physical education or the study of the muscles and motion.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always check the accreditation of the training school.
