How to Make a Decorative Apple Wreath
Although you might typically think of wreaths as winter decorations, if you steer away from pine boughs and holly you can make a wreath fitting for any season. An apple wreath is perfect for adorning your door or wall during the crisp fall months, or even in the springtime! The next time you visit a local orchard, pick up an extra dozen apples. If you love the delicious fragrance of freshly baked apple pie, you will enjoy making this craft project for your home or as a gift.

Measure lemon juice into a large bowl. Add salt and stir thoroughly. Set aside. Peel and core the apples, and slice into circles about 1/4-inch thick. Set the slices into the lemon juice mixture. Allow to soak for about 10 minutes.

Combine cinnamon, allspice and cloves in a medium size bowl. Lay out several paper towels on a flat surface. Place the apple slices onto the paper towels and lightly pat the tops of the apple slices with paper towels.

Sprinkle the spice mixture onto the apple slices. Turn the slices over and sprinkle the other side. Place the apple slices on baking sheets in a single layer. Bake at 200 degrees F for 4 to 6 hours, until completely dried but still pliable.

Shape the wire into a circle or possibly a heart shape. Fold an apple slice in half, and fold it in half again. Pierce the apple with the wire, sliding it to the other end. If you can't fold it into quarters, fold in half. Repeat with the remaining apple slices or until the wire is completely full.

Bend the end of the wire with pliers into a hook shape. Use the pliers to wrap the two ends together. Tie the length of ribbon around the top of the wreath so that you can hang it from a nail or wreath hanger.
