How to Gear a Toon in World of Warcraft
Everyone in World of Warcraft wants to have the best toon to ever grace the land of Azeroth. Knowing how to gear and when to gear though is important. Here are some suggestions for making sure your tune is geared properly and uniquely.

Where possible, gear from the field while you are lower levels. It doesn’t matter how cool a certain pair of shoulder pads are at level 19. At the end of the day, they are still level 19 pads and the amount paid for them should reflect a sensibility that knows to save money for uber gear in the higher levels.

If you must gear for money, check the vendors. Only buy their unique stuff. It’s easy to see which this is, because they show to only have one or two of the item, and it’s usually an item that sells for at least double the asking price at auction.

After checking the vendors, your next best bet is the auction house unless you are a level 19, 29, 39, 49, 59 or 69. Use the auction house sparingly to keep your gear strong enough to keep you alive while you quest. Make sure to use a program Add On like Wow Econ to insure you are paying a fair price for the items you seek to buy for gearing.

If you are a 10, 29, 39, 49, 59 or 69, you will want unique and limited gear. The best place to get such gear is from the battleground quartermasters. Battlegrounds such as Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin are a good place to sharpen your playing skills. They are Player versus Player (PvP) areas in which you gain honor points and marks of honor for your participation and successes. Those honor points and marks of honor can be traded to the quartermaster for awesome gear that you can’t get anywhere else in the game. Take advantage of this special gearing opportunity by stopping to battleground each time you hit a level ending in the number 9.

Once you are level 58 and above, you are expected to be well geared. If you spent your gold sparingly in the first 57 levels, by the time your character gets to the outlands, you should be swimming in Gold. Gear up to your heart’s desire.
