Instructions

    • 1

Collect the items you will need. Grab a shovel, hose and some sort of sifter (you can even use a colander from your kitchen).

    • 2

Dig a hole with your shovel. You'll want to make sure that it is long enough to fit your body if you're laying down and also wide enough for you to sit comfortably. Most homemade mud baths are about 6 to 7 feet long, 2 to 3 feet wide and 2 to 3 feet deep, but it's completely up to you how large or small you want your bath.

    • 3

Sift through the dirt you dug out of the hole. You will want to get out the rocks, sticks and other sharp objects that can harm your skin. After you sift through the dirt, place it back in the hole.

    • 4

Add water to the dirt in the hole when it is about 1/4 full. You can mix the dirt and the water with your shovel or your feet. Most mud baths have a thick consistency (think brownie batter). You'll want to add more dirt and water until the bath is half full.

    • 5

Jump in. Mud baths can be fun for children to play in, but for adults, it can be a peaceful time to become one with nature. Feel free to massage your arms and legs with the mud to exfoliate your skin. Let the mud dry on your skin.

    • 6

Jump out. Take a hose, wash the mud completely off your body and towel dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Add fresh herbs or flower petals to the mud bath to make it more like a spa.

  • Kids, ask your parents' permission before tearing up their yard to make a mud bath.
