Things You'll Need:

Step 1
Draw a window one the wall in the shape of an arch. This way you can make a small mural vignette and give the impression that the castle mural is being viewed through a window. Use a level and yard stick to draw the bottom of the window. You can create a faux stone effect on the rest of the wall, or you can simply paint a rectangle beneath the mural to give the effect of a windowsill. Make the faux window about five feet high and four feet wide.
-
Step 2
Draw a castle on the wall. There are several different types of castles you can draw, and they are simply a series of rectangles and cone shapes. If you have never drawn a castle before, look at the eHow tutorial on how to draw a castle. The link is found in the resource section of this article. Draw the castle in the center of the arch window with the bottom of the window about 18 inches above the bottom of the “window.”
-
Step 3
Draw a moat at the base of your castle as well as a path coming from your castle. Also draw clouds in the sky above the castle in the mural. Don’t forget to add a horizon line behind the castle.
-
Step 4
Paint the background color of your mural. Paint the grass in the foreground, which is at the bottom of the window in a bright green color. As you work your way up, or back into the painting, make the grass gradually darker. Add a line dark green line where the sky meets the earth. Next, paint the background of the sky and add white clouds.
-
Step 5
Paint the castle including base and the towers in a sandy beige or gray color. Paint the cone tops of the towers in a brilliant color such as red of blue. Paint the flags in a bright color as well. Continue painting in all of the details such as the windows, the moat, and the drawbridge.
-
Step 6
With a fine paintbrush, add short horizontal and vertical lines to suggest stones that the castle would be made of. You can add more details to the mural like birds in the air, and bushes in the front of the castle behind the moat. Add a few grass details and maybe an animal or bug in the grass, and your castle mural is complete.
