Thread bracelets, also known as friendship bracelets are simple to make and are a summertime tradition among camp kids. Worn as bracelets and sometimes as anklet's, these thread crafted pieces are fun to exchange and just as fun to create. With some embroidery thread or even regular sewing thread, you can create a bracelet that any friend would be proud to wear. Adding some beads can make your bracelet even better.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Cut 3 pieces of embroidery thread, each about eighteen inches long. You can choose varying colors or just one color, the choice is yours.

  2. Step 2

Tie a knot at one end of the three pieces to join them together.

  3. Step 3

Tape the knotted end to your workspace with a piece of masking tape. This will secure the bracelet in place while you create it.

  4. Step 4

Grab the loose ends of the bracelet threads, and begin to make a braid. Cross each of the three pieces of thread over each other, just as if you are braiding someones hair.

  5. Step 5

Add a bead here and there by threading it up from the open end of the threads, and tying a knot.

  6. Step 6

After securing the bead with the knot, continue on with the braiding.

  7. Step 7

Continue this method until you have a completely braided piece and all of your beads in place. Make as many bracelets as you need following the above steps.

Tips & Warnings
  • The seed beads are a great fit for this project. They are of a smaller size, so they work in very nicely with the thinness of the embroidery floss. They can be found in an array of colors at your local craft supply store.
  • when tying your friendship bracelet to your friend's wrist or ankle, be sure not to tie it too tight. Leave plenty of room between the skin and bracelet for proper circulation.
