Buy Teachers Supplies

An article written by the Edutopia Staff stated that based on their readers, teachers are spending money from their own wallet to supply what is needed in the classroom. Teachers are spending in the “low to mid-hundreds every year.” With that in mind how do teachers buy supplies to satisfy what they need for their students without breaking the bank; in this case wallet?

Instructions

    • 1

Keep a list of things that you need or wish to have for your students. Keeping an ongoing list will allow you to pick things up as you shop throughout the year. Make sure that your list includes things that will not be supplied by outside help such as your local school district.

Buy sale items. Many times close to the beginning of the school year stores stock up on school supplies and offer some products to be priced very low to get people into the store. Stock up on these products even to the point of over buying. At the low prices offered you can buy supplies for next year as well as this year and therefore reducing the overall cost.

Buy supplies in bulk quantities and divide the cost between other teachers. Other teachers will be happy to share the cost of buying in bulk if they are also buying supplies for their students. Let them know in advance to avoid being stuck with no other teacher to share the expense.

Shop at your local dollar store and thrift stores; also spend time during the spring and summer to shop at garage sales. You will be surprised that you can find many items that can be used for school supplies.

Check the web There are many online stores where you can buy teacher supplies at discount prices. Keep in mind that you will pay shipping and handling; therefore you might want to make sure that you order is large enough to make it worth it. Whichever your method either individually or combined do what you can to keep your budget low. Teaching doesn’t have to be expensive.

Tips & Warnings

  • Avoid buying items that you can get through your school district for free.

  • Don’t wait till the last minute or you will end up spending more on supplies.
