How to Paint an Ocean Mural
An ocean mural is a very popular mural theme for a child’s room, a classroom, or a even a bathroom. At first glance you may think it is very difficult to do, but it is quite simple if you take it one step at a time. If you can paint by number, you can create an ocean theme mural. Things You'll Need
- Acrylic paint
- Three shades of blue high gloss wall paint
- Paint brushes and rollers
- Images of underwater creatures
- Stencils
- Projector
- Projector transparencies
- Permanent marker
- Stencil brush

Using the wall paint in the three shades of blue, paint the wall to create a background for your mural. You can use the lightest color at the top to indicate the sky or the top level of the water. Use the medium color in the middle, and the darker color in the background. You may blend the colors together where they meet, or you can draw a wavy water line at each level.

Transfer your images on underwater creatures onto a projector transparency sheet and project them onto the wall. Use a pencil to outline the images on the wall and to draw in the details. A good place to find the images is in old coloring book and from free clipart.

Use stencil kits to create the underwater creatures. The stencil kits will also give you directions on using the stencils and color suggestions as well. You can purchase the stencils in craft stores and at several online websites. Use acrylic paints to paint the underwater creatures.

Paint your underwater creatures as you would pictures in a coloring book. They can be as realistic or cartoonish as your own art abilities allow. These should be painted with acrylic paints as well.
